Empowered Women Empower™: The Journey Behind a Global Movement for Women’s Success

Empowered Women Empower™ is more than just a platform - it’s a transformative global movement rooted in the belief that true success lies in uplifting one another. Created by a visionary leader Diana Richardson Phillipus who turned personal challenges into a mission of empowerment, this initiative has evolved from intimate gatherings to a thriving network of conferences, coaching programs, and impactful initiatives. At its core, Empowered Women Empower™ is about creating spaces where women - especially Black women - are seen, heard, and supported as they rise to their fullest potential. This is the story of how one woman’s journey of resilience and purpose became a catalyst for change, inspiring women around the world to embrace their power unapologetically.

Empowered Women Empower™ has become a global movement. What was the moment or experience that inspired you to create this platform, and how has it evolved since its inception?

Diana: The inspiration for Empowered Women Empower™ is deeply rooted in my own personal journey - one filled with setbacks, challenges, and ultimately, transformation. I’ve faced obstacles that many of us know too well, from career setbacks to feeling overlooked and unheard. Through it all, I came to realize something powerful: the true strength lies not in individual success, but in the power of a supportive community.

It was during these times of struggle that I recognized how critical it is for women - especially Black women - to have spaces where they can be fully seen, heard, and supported. Too often, we’re expected to navigate the world alone or face challenges that others don’t understand. So, I decided to create a space that was different. What started as a small gathering of women coming together to uplift and empower each other has since blossomed into a global movement. Empowered Women Empower™ has grown into a platform that includes conferences, coaching programs, and initiatives designed to inspire women to step into their power unapologetically and without hesitation.

What I’ve witnessed through this journey is the undeniable impact that happens when women, particularly women of color, come together to share their experiences, their wisdom, and their strength. This movement is more than just a network; it’s a family. It’s a call to action for women to recognize that they don’t have to do it alone. We rise when we lift each other, and that’s exactly what Empowered Women Empower™ is all about - creating spaces where women not only survive but truly thrive.

In your book, The Entrepreneurs Playbook: 7-Figure Game-Changing Strategies for Business Success, you offer strategies for scaling businesses. What is one game changing strategy that every entrepreneur should prioritize and why?

Diana: One game-changing strategy every entrepreneur should prioritize is laying the right foundation and building a solid infrastructure for their business. Without the proper systems, processes, and operational structure, even the most innovative ideas can struggle to succeed. When I was writing The Entrepreneur’s Playbook: 7-Figure Game Changing Strategies for Business Success, I was excited to share the strategies that have helped me, and countless others build sustainable businesses from the ground up.

Once the foundation is set, branding becomes the essential next layer. Branding is more than a logo or website - it’s the experience people have when they interact with your business. It’s how you communicate your mission, values, and the unique impact you want to make. A strong brand creates trust and builds emotional connections with your audience, making them loyal supporters and advocates for your business.

I believe that a well-built business infrastructure paired with intentional branding sets entrepreneurs up for long-term success. This combination creates a powerful engine for growth and sustainability. That’s why I poured so much passion into writing this book - to equip entrepreneurs with actionable strategies that help them not only start but scale and thrive in today’s competitive market.

You’re a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, especially for Black women. What unique challenges do you think Black women entrepreneurs face today, and how can they be better supported?

Diana: Black women entrepreneurs face numerous challenges that often go unnoticed, such as limited access to capital, a lack of representation in leadership positions, and systemic biases that make it harder for us to thrive. These barriers create a cycle that keeps many of us from reaching our full potential, and it’s time we change that narrative. To truly support Black women entrepreneurs, we must first ensure better access to funding and resources. This means making capital more accessible through grants, loans, and partnerships that give us the foundation to grow our businesses without being held back by financial obstacles.

We also need to build more mentorship opportunities, where experienced entrepreneurs and leaders are not only guiding but investing in the future of Black women in business. It’s about creating a community of support that enables us to scale and thrive. Additionally, we must open doors in industries where we’ve been historically underrepresented - whether that’s tech, healthcare, or finance - and create pathways for us to take our rightful place in these spaces.

But it’s not enough to just address these challenges; we also need to celebrate and amplify the stories of Black women who are breaking barriers and achieving success. Our journeys, struggles, and triumphs deserve to be seen and heard so that other women can see what’s possible. When we share our stories, we create a powerful movement that shows the world our strength, resilience, and limitless potential. It’s time to rewrite the narrative for Black women entrepreneurs, one story, one door, and one opportunity at a time.

The Women Who Empower Awards celebrate trailblazing women. How do you select honorees, and what impact do you hope this recognition has on their journeys?

Diana: We choose honorees who embody leadership, resilience, and a genuine passion for uplifting others. Their journeys are powerful examples of what’s possible when determination meets purpose. By sharing their stories, we aim to inspire women everywhere to pursue their dreams with confidence and courage.

Recognizing these trailblazers isn’t just about celebrating their success - it’s about honoring their impact and reminding them that their hard work and sacrifices are seen and valued. We hope their stories spark something in others, encouraging women to keep pushing forward, knowing they’re capable of greatness too. It’s about creating a ripple effect of empowerment that reaches far beyond the stage.

What does empowerment truly mean to you, and how do you incorporate this philosophy into your coaching, events, and leadership?

Diana: Great question! I get asked this often, and to me, empowerment is about more than just motivation - it’s about creating real opportunities for women to step into their full potential. It’s helping women see their worth, recognize their strengths, and believe in what they’re capable of achieving. Empowerment comes from having the right tools, access to resources, and a community that supports and uplifts you.

In everything I do - whether it’s through coaching, conferences, or community-building events - I focus on sparking action and creating transformational experiences. It’s about connecting women with opportunities and each other, so they can collaborate, grow, and build something lasting. Empowerment isn’t a moment; it’s a journey of continuous growth and discovery. My goal has always been to create spaces where women feel inspired to rise, take ownership of their stories, and turn their visions into reality.

As the WBNC enters its fourth year, what has been the most rewarding aspect of creating and growing this conference?

Diana: The most rewarding aspect of the Women in Business Networking Conference (WBNC) has been witnessing the incredible, lasting impact it has on women’s lives and businesses. Seeing women come together, form genuine connections, collaborate on projects, and elevate their businesses after attending is nothing short of inspiring.

Each year, I hear powerful stories about breakthroughs, unexpected partnerships, and personal transformations sparked by the conference. Women have launched ventures, secured funding, and even found lifelong mentors through the relationships built at WBNC. Those moments remind me why this work is so meaningful.

It’s more than just an event - it’s a movement that fosters a supportive ecosystem where women can thrive together. Watching attendees’ step into new opportunities with confidence, knowing they have a community that believes in them, fills my heart with gratitude and motivates me to keep expanding the vision. It’s the power of collective empowerment in action, and I’m honored to be part of their journeys.

If you could share one piece of advice with women just starting their entrepreneurial journeys, what would it be?

Diana: Start before you’re ready and trust the process - seriously. Waiting for the “perfect” moment will only delay your dreams because perfection is the enemy of progress. You don’t need to have every detail figured out to begin. What matters is having a clear sense of your ‘why’ - the purpose that fuels your passion - and allowing that to guide your journey.

Stay consistent, even when things get tough, because challenges are just steppingstones toward success. Every setback is a lesson, and every small win is proof that you’re moving in the right direction. Be open to learning, evolving, and adjusting along the way. You’ll never feel 100% ready, and that’s okay. Success comes from showing up, taking action, and believing that even the smallest steps can create something extraordinary. Trust yourself - you are capable of more than you can imagine.

What do you hope every woman who encounters your work - whether through your conferences, coaching, or content - takes away from the experience?

Diana: I want every woman who encounters my work - whether through my coaching, conferences, or the content I create - to leave feeling empowered, clear, and excited to take bold steps toward her dreams. My mission is to help women gain the clarity they need to understand their purpose, equip them with actionable strategies to move forward, and build their confidence to pursue their goals unapologetically. Through coaching, I’m dedicated to providing the personalized support women need to overcome their challenges and create a path to success. At my conferences, I want women to feel the strength and inspiration that comes from being surrounded by others who are equally committed to growth and empowerment. And through the content I share, I strive to provide real insights and inspiration that help women build thriving businesses, embrace their leadership, and unlock their full potential. Above all, I want every woman to walk away knowing she is part of a community that believes in her and is cheering for her every step of the way.

As I always say, “It takes a village to rise together, and when we do, there’s nothing that can stop us.”
